The Building Department is responsible for the safe construction of all buildings constructed throughout the municipality. The department assists the public through the building permit process and provides inspections as construction progresses. Septic System inspection is also provided through the Building Department.  Please contact the building department at (519) 856-9596 extension 114 or 117 if you require additional information.  The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is an invaluable building resource as well.

Building Permits

Guidelines and permits for building, renovating, and demolishing are available from the Building Department. The building permit fee provides for permit approval and mandatory inspections under the Ontario Building Code. Most construction projects require a building permit. Under the Ontario Building Code, a building permit is required for the construction or alteration of any structure over 10 meters square (108 sq. ft.) in area. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that a building permit is obtained prior to any of the construction taking place. A building permit application and detailed drawings of the project must be submitted for approval.

Inspections

Building Inspectors are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to provide the mandatory building inspections.
