Drop In Activities - Active 55

RECREATIONAL DROP-IN ACTIVITIES

Drop-in programs are a great way to participate in sport and fitness activities.

We listened during the Parks & Recreation Master Plan process and to our Active 55+ Participants. As a result of this feedback, during the Spring of 2016 the Township has launched drop-in groups for walking/hiking, pickleball, shuffleboard, darts, and gardening. If there is another activity that interests you, please let us know!

How will the drop-in groups work?

Most drop-in groups will run weekly. Depending on the activity, there could be a minimal fee to cover the cost of supplies or the rental of the facility. Each group will be led by one or two volunteer convenors (leaders) who will help you sign in and explain the format of the group.

Once you have signed in, you are welcome to warm up and participate. Each group may operate a little differently from the others depending on the convenor(s) and participants. The main goal is to get out, be active and connect with others who may share the same interests or hobbies.

If you are not familiar with the activity, the Township can offer introduction classes through the Active 55+ program. For some activities the convenor(s) may be able to demonstrate.

We Need Volunteers!

To keep the recreational drop-in programs running, we need volunteers to act as convenors (leaders) for each group or activity. If you have a passion for a sport or activity and are willing to commit up to two hours each week, please consider volunteering for this valuable and rewarding program.
Not able to commit 1-2 hours every week? We would be happy to explore convenor partnerships or a bi-weekly or monthly group.
The Township will provide the facility, equipment and marketing for the activity or group. We ask that our convenors open the space (if necessary), greet and sign in the participants. Training will be provided to each volunteer convenor to ensure they are comfortable with assigned tasks and roles.
