About the Facility This facility will provide the residents of the Township and their guests a year round multi-use facility that will offer programming to all demographics and sport team compositions. Regionally, the facility will provide added opportunity to the currently under-serviced demand for indoor field facilities. The Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre will become a landmark and a destination for members of the community and visitors alike who enjoy indoor and outdoor sporting activities, picnics, hiking, fishing, and many more activities within the park. The Athletic Performance Centre construction will also include the development of an adjacent fully lighted outdoor regulation sized sports field. This 56,000 sq. ft. facility has been designed to respond and be respectful of its immediate context and the environment. Given the inherited characteristics and requirements of a project of this size and nature, the building was carefully and skilfully planned with special emphasis on the control and reduction of energy consumption. The introduction of perimeter clear storey windows allows the building to harvest natural light into the interior while improving the playing experience of its users. The implementation and use of aesthetic and innovative materials, in addition to the mechanical and electrical systems that were designed to maximize the long-term efficiency of the building will ensure the reduction of operational costs, maintenance and a reduced carbon footprint The architectural features of the building pay homage to the rural character and nature of the site and the community. Being surrounded by vast farm fields, The Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre replicates some of the vernacular architectural elements found in rural Ontario. The total construction budget for the project will be 6.2 million dollars. The Federal and the Provincial Government will each contribute 1/3 of the project funding through The Building Canada Fund Communities Component. The Township of Guelph/Eramosa will contribute the other 1/3rd of the project cost.
