The Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program (OWDCP) helps eligible livestock, poultry, and honey bee producers recover losses caused by designated wildlife. The program is administered by municipalities on behalf of the Province of Ontario and provides financial compensation for eligible damage when the required program criteria are met.
Producers who experience a suspected wildlife attack should report the incident to the Deputy Clerk of the Township to request an application form as soon as possible, and preserve the site and evidence until an investigation can be completed. More information about the program is available on the OWDCP website.
Once a claim is submitted to the Township under the OWDCP, the municipality assigns a Livestock Valuer to investigate the incident. Livestock Valuers are trained individuals appointed to inspect evidence, assess the cause of injury or death, document findings, and complete the required program reporting forms. Their role is to provide an impartial and timely assessment in accordance with provincial guidelines to support the municipality’s review of the claim.
Producers are encouraged to cooperate with the inspection process and provide any supporting documentation that may assist with the investigation.
The Township is proud to partner with Steven Weir as our Livestock Valuer. Members of the community looking to connect with Steven Weir can reach out through the Deputy Clerk, or contact him at: (519) 221-5220.
