UPDATE  - Temporary Road Closure – Main Street South (Highway 7), Rockwood – Extended to September 24, 2021

Please note that closure of Main Street South (Highway) has been extended to Friday, September 24^th.

Appropriate agencies (Student Transportation, OPP, Fire, EMS, GO Transit) have been notified of the delay.  This project has evolved from the initial required road repair to include the timely replacement of aging watermain within Highway 7, while the opportunity exists.  As the Highway is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transportation, the Township is making an effort to replace as much of the watermain within Highway 7 (Main Street) while possible.  This includes the connections to Harris and Carroll Street. 

Delays in the project completion are the result of a number of contributing factors including utility locates (Ontario One Call and failed tracer wire) for the new connections to Harris and Carroll Street, COVID related delays in securing equipment for the by-pass water connections to minimize service disruptions and unexpected soil conditions for a portion of the new watermain route. 

As of Monday, August 30, 2021 all testing of the new watermain in Highway 7 has been completed and the contractor is now working diligently to complete initials connections to put the new watermain into service and change residential services within the work area over to the new watermain.  The final watermain connection will be made at that point before proceeding to the road work and highway reinstatement. 

Notice – Temporary Road Closure – Main Street South (Highway 7), Rockwood – Starting August 3, 2021 for approximately 5 weeks

Please be advised that a portion of Main Street South (Highway 7) will be closed for road repair and watermain replace.

Starting August 3, 2021 and for approximately 5 weeks, the portion of Main Street South in Rockwood at Frederick Street to Harris Street (Wellington Road 50) will be closed with absolutely no through traffic onto Main Street South from  Carrol Street. 

During this closure, only local traffic will be permitted with all other traffic to be detoured from Highway 7 to the Eramosa/Milton Townline to Wellington Road 44.

The Township has coordinated with GO Transit and for the duration of the closure, the stop south of Harris Street will not be serviced. Patrons must utilize the stops at Harris Street and Main Street South (Highway 7). GO Transit will install temporary stops on Harris St., east of Main Street South. Go Transit will post notices at the four out-of-service stops, directing passengers to Harris St. The sidewalk on one side of the closed road will be maintained open for pesdestian access along Main Street South. For more information, please contact GO Transit. Residents whose garbage will be affected by this closure will receive a letter from the Township with further instruction.
